"In the Japanese feudal era, the "Ninjas" emerged, legendary figures, considered unreal by many. But ninjas did exist, and they were great warriors in their time. There are many theories about their origins, but the most solid one is that ninjas arose from a group of Japanese people returning from China... they went into exile due to wars and persecution and returned when they considered it safe. Meanwhile, they developed survival techniques in China or even in Tibet. It is believed that some ninja clans that emerged belonged to Yamabushi tribes, in fact, yamabushi ninjas left their deeds written in history. 

These exiles upon returning to Japan, began to settle in lands belonging to feudal lords. These feudal lords then increased their armies with people living on their lands, to defend their territories. Iga and Koga were provinces with great resources, much forest and some mountains, which favored the returned exiles to settle without drawing much attention, so the greatest incidence of known ninja families occurred there. The shogunates were the system of government and power in the country. 

During civil wars and revolts in the provinces of Koga and Iga, the shogunate tried to eliminate resistance to its power, putting at risk the survival of the ninja families residing there and supporters of the rebellious samurai faction. In these revolts many survivors had to take refuge in the mountains of Iga and Koga. There they continued to develop their techniques to guarantee their survival, because that was the true necessity of the ninjas..."

The game's first name was Blood & Honour, but at one point the creators discover the extremist movement with the same name and change the game's title to Yamabushi in order to avoid any association.

However, due to the attention given to the game by the press online and offline in the early days, it continued to be known by its original name for the years that followed.
